Comprehension

I like engaging students in discussion of the lessons or material because it helps to not only reinforce concepts it allows them to bring up questions or connections that I may not consider. One of the learning strategies I will be using to guide this will be the Request method. ReQuest is a teaching technique for helping students to ask questions as they read. The class and myself all read a text and then I ask them questions about it. Next they get to ask me questions and see how well I do while they check my answers against what we read. Not only do they get to try to "stump the teacher" they also learn the material more thoroughly as they scan for questions and answers. This meets Georgia Performance Standards: ELA9LSV1, ELA9RC1, ELA9RC2

This strategy was adapted from the website http://www.readwritethink.org/

This worksheet (Click here) will be used as the notes for the ReQuest session. www.readwritethink.org has a great PDF guiding how to implement a ReQuest Session. Click here to view the PDF.
